Dry Eye Disease

We are fortunate to have a dry eye specialist on staff at Hudson Valley Eye Surgeons. Dr. Daniel Brocks completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Eye Disease at The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, with extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eyes.
Dry Eyes is a multifaceted issue related to either poor quality tears or not enough tears being produced by the tear glands. Dryness of the eye surface (the cornea) can result in blurry vision, pain, burning, redness, light sensitivity, foreign body sensation, excessive tearing from irritation, and even more serious complications if left untreated.Â
A complete eye exam allows an ophthalmologist to diagnose and recommend treatment for your dry eyes. The exam includes investigating the many factors that may be contributing to dry eyes, such as routine activities like computer use, regular medications, and less common systemic conditions such as rheumatologic disease. In these cases, your ophthalmologist often works in consult with other physicians, such as a rheumatologist, to provide the best treatment possible.
Dry eyes continue to be an area of extensive research. Understanding why dry eyes occur and developing new treatments is an ongoing process. Hudson Valley Eye Surgeons is dedicated to providing the most up to date care for dry eyes. Most recently, we participated in a study researching the best method of evaluating patients’ dry eye symptoms. As we keep current on this issue in the field of ophthalmology, we will always provide the newest options available in caring for dry eyes.
